I have some origami mobiles to share tonight!  I can't decide which one is my favorite but I'm definitely partial to the tiny ones ("Wavy Watercolor").  I made the green one so I'd have a Spring-themed mobile.  I plan on making many more of these once I get back from my trip next week!  So look out!

News
I've been waiting since Christmas and it's finally happened!  I'm officially a member of SRAJD!  Woo!

If you create jewelry, it's definitely something you should consider.  It's a networking site in that you have your own ID # and are listed on a page of all the members.  It's not like a street team where things are expected of you.  You're just. . . in.  Not to mention the awesome feeling of knowing you're included in a group of like-minded, talented individuals.  (My favorite part is the unique number thing.  I'm 1438.  Who are you?)

SRAJD's website, if you're interested

Etsy Street Teams

I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time online lately.  Waaaay more than I've actually spent creating things, actually.  There's a very active Etsy street team (Etsy OWLs) which is fun because I'm apparently incapable of setting deadlines for myself.  We've got a March Challenge that I have all finished in my head but haven't actually started.  And I'm going out of town next Thursday!  I have a lot to do today in addition to cleaning around the house and going grocery shopping, including finishing an origami mobile that I started days ago.  I'm telling you, it is not easy being a crafter with ADD!  ;)

Then there's a new Etsy team in the works for Asheville (hurray my Etsy dream come true!)  I'm really hoping that it leads to we Asheville Etsyers getting together once a month!  Meeting and talking to people online is all well and good but sometimes you just want to connect with other crafters in person.

New Sites I'm On

I've started using a lot of fun sites I never considered using 2 weeks ago.  One is Flickr (you can find a link to my page to the right).  I've always used Photobucket but Flickr's uploader is so much more user friendly.  You can just highlight all the photos you want at once and it automatically puts them in the queue!  Much nicer than manually selecting each photo blahblahblah.  I do like how Photobucket gives you all kinds of prefabricated code for posting the photos elsewhere but I think now I'll just use Photobucket for Craftster and Flickr for everything else.  From what I've heard other people saying, Flickr is kind of like a social networking site too.  So hey this could be a really good thing for me.

The other site is Indiepublic.  (You can reach the site by clicking on my page's link to the right.)  It seems to be a very fledgling site with not that many groups yet but a lot of new people are signing up every day.  It's kind of a mixture of a blog + Flickr + message board.  There could be more flexibility in organizing your page but it's interesting to have a page that's not just a static profile like everywhere else.  I think it's going to become a major crafting networking resource.  I need to spend more time getting used to how it's set up and learn how to make it work for me!

Writing

Another thing that's distracting me from finishing any of my projects is Script Frenzy.  It's the same as Nanowrimo but for scripts of any kind (screenplays to comic books) and the concept is the same: write a specific number of pages (Nano is words) in a one month period.  Meet the goal and you "win".  I did it last summer - this year it's in April - and lost miserably.  This year I'm optimistic that I'll at least get halfway done!  If you're doing Script Frenzy this year, look me up.  My username is Bunbury.

You can tell I'm in the habit of writing lately - this blog entry is a BOOK!  I'll have some new cranes to show this week before my Showcase next week!!

Can I say "buttonlicious" without getting beat up?

So I have a whole bag of buttons with no real plans for them.  The other day I started sorting them by size/color just for an excuse to play with them - few things are more fun than playing with buttons - and the lightbulb that led to these necklaces flashed and exploded.  (Hey, I was excited!)

The red is my favorite.  I'm considering making a similar one for myself because it's so cool.

The purple one has the most buttons and they are such awesome colors.  The green one is the best one to wear over a high-necked shirt (it's long at 19.5").

You can find the green one for sale at the Etsy OWLs Street Team shop.  The others can be found at my shop (link to the right).

I don't know what fun buttonlicious creations I have in store next but one thing's for sure: I desperately need more jump rings!!!

So the sickness is gone

Now what?

Why I had to get sick at the end of last week when I was planning on getting so much done. . . .  At least I didn't catch the flu that turned into bronchitis that my girlfriend had.  No thank you!  But now I have no excuse not to work on things.

I've joined two Etsy street teams!  Very excited about them.  They are The Jack and Jills of all Trades and EtsyOWLS (Off the Wall Ladies).  They'll keep me busy even when I don't feel like it!  Right now I am planning my submission to the OWLS' March Challenge.  I'm amused because it's the same theme of the current Craftster Challenge!  Which I didn't enter.  I have my idea of what I'm going to make, it's just how I'm going to make it!

Really bummed at the low sales at the moment BUT I have plans to turn things around.  I'm going to get some business cards out to Malaprops' giant biz card wall tonight.  I hope some handmade oriented people find it and are inspired to buy!  haha

Hungry Lucy really is one of my favorite artists to listen to.  Thank you Pandora!

I am so on the front page of Craftster!  I'm pretty new to the site so this is very exciting for me!

I just saw that there's a Craftster Challenge section.  That sounds fun!  I must investigate!

Today has been such a weird day.  It feels like no time has passed since I rolled out of bed this morning at quarter to eight.  Alternately, it feels like a week has passed because of all the things I've done!

Not the least of which was meeting up with the Speculative Fiction Book Club to "discuss" Brandon Sanderson's Elantris.  (I use rabbit ears because, as always, SF/F geeks are excitable and easily led into sidetracks from which there is no return.)  It really is a fantastic read.  I highly recommend it if you're into fiction with a fantasy angle but nothing too over the top.  It has great characters, a fully developed world, believable magic, and best of all Sanderson is an up and coming master of "show don't tell" writing.  The novel was disorienting at first because he's so good at plopping you down in this complicated, believable world that you feel that you actually have been transported and experience real culture shock.  I haven't had that kind of experience from a book in a long time.

As promised, I have posted new creations to the shop!  I'm very excited about this batch.  They're colorful, they're interesting, and they're one of a kind never to be seen again.  Today's creations are, in order from top to bottom:

  • Cute Flower Buttons Earrings
  • Tiddly Winks Bracelet
  • Pink Candy Illusion Necklace
  • Purple Candy Illusion Necklace

If you like the two "candy" necklaces, there's a yellow one coming on Friday!  I'm excited.  They are all really very dainty and cute.  I can't decide if I like Tiddly Winks or the flower earrings better.  What do you think?

Dice
Dice
Nice and slow now. . . that's it. . . easy. . . .

Oh, I could have bought more.  There was more in my shopping cart.  I realized at checkout that there was no excuse to blow all my hard earned money so, I chose these earrings in the end.

At first I thought they were made from real dice which is why I didn't buy them immediately upon discovering them.  Can you imagine how heavy they would be?!!  There was also a red and black set which made it difficult to choose.  In the end I decided this pair would go with more so click went the buy button.

I need to get away from this computer before I buy more delightful things!

You know you want to see all the other fab things this seller has to offer!  You think these dice are cool?  Wait till you click the link.  Go on, you know you want to.

I'm very excited because I just bought the cutest Easter cards!!!  (See image at left.)  They're from a shop called AZ Creative Studio and she does some incredible work in addition to her cards.  You just have to love an artsy print of Elizabeth Taylor looking all sassy.

I feel really warm and cozy when I'm browsing her shop.  I especially love the Old Hollywood section.  There's an edginess to the black and white prints and a nostalgia that comes from the photos of iconic stars, their personalities shining through from their faces and the cleverly chosen quotes.

The Easter cards make me think of the 50's.  I collect old postcards and these cards all have the same warmth and character.  They feel original and sweet.  I don't usually send Easter cards but when I found wee Bunny Chit Chat I knew that I needed to this year!!

So please check out her shop.  You'll be very happy you did!
